John married Frances PAULL on 12th July 1833 at Illogan, Cornwall, England. She was born in 1806 and baptised baptised 13th July 1806 at Redruth, St. Unity Church, Cornwall. Her parents were Richard and Mary PAULL.

John and Elizabeth emigrated on 'David Malcolm' in 1848. The ship departed from London via Plymouth on 21st December 1847, and the voyage was 93 days. It arrived in S.A. 23 Mar 1848. The ship was described as a fine barque. On board were 250 immigrants chiefly from Huntingdonshire, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall. Several children perished on the voyage and several babies were born on the voyage. On the ship list was John P. ROGERS, his wife and 4 children.

I think that the 4 children were:
Eliza Paull Rogers (8yrs), John Thomas Rogers (5yrs), Sarah Luke Rogers (3yrs) and Mary Hannah Paull Rogers (infant).

Times were hard in South Australia in the 1840's and 1850's. John was listed as a carpenter/builder. He was declared insolvent in 1851 and spent time in jail. After release, he was required to present himself for audits on a regular basis. During this time, he was reported as having lived in King William Street and Currie Street, Adelaide. He was listed as insolvent again in 1868.
