In the 1841 England census George and Mary were living at St. Clare Terrace, Madron, Penzance, Cornwall, with their son.

Some sources say that George was a mason, others say Farmer, Carpenter, Wheelright.
In Marianna HOCKING's obit (Mary Anna Tonkin STEPHENS – daughter), George is credited with having worked as a stone cutter in the erection of the C.P.O. (presumably the Adelaide Central Post Office), and also having made three successful trips to the Victorian gold fields.

Mary and George, with their children John (6), Mary A (4) and George (infant) emigrated to South Australia on the Prince Regent, arriving at Port Adelaide on 20th July 1849.

George died 9th March 1878 (63)of Pleuritis at 'Rosevean' Oakbank (Woodside Methodist Cemetery.
Mary died 20th August 1896 (78) at Rosewater ((Woodside Methodist Cemetery).
